We also need an image, of the campus, the seal, or something iconic.

We will only use one slide so the information needs to be attractive, easy to read and the grammar needs to be on point.

May 10th and 13th
In 1965 there was a riot in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles.
In 1967 there were over 150 race riots in America.
In 1968 there were hundreds more after the Assassination of MLK jr.
In 1992 there were riots all over Los Angeles.
In 2014 there were riots in Ferguson, Missouri.
In 2015 there were riots in Baltimore, Maryland.

If you go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_incidents_of_unrest_and_violence_in_the_United_States_by_city you can see a list of the episodes of civil unrest in a city over time.

In a pair or group of three I want you to do research on the history of racial tensions over this time period in either Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, Baltimore, or the St. Louis/Ferguson/Cairo Illinois area. You will be doing a presentation on your work in class on the 20th and 21st. Your presentation needs to answer these questions;
  1. Where is your area? What was life like for African Americans in the area?
  2. What started each outbreak of violence?
  3. How did the violence spread? What kinds of things did people do?
  4. What did the police and government do to deal with the situation?
  5. Did anyone die or get hurt? Explain.
  6. Why do you think that some cities have a longer history of race riots than others?
  7. How should we deal with the underlying problems that cause these outbreaks of anger and violence?
Your presentation needs to be in your own words, not cut and pasted from the internet. If you cut and paste it from the internet I will ask you to redo the work. If you do not I will not give you higher than a 50% for a grade. You must answer all seven questions.

Your presentation is due on the 20th and 21st. If you aren't able to give your presentations on those days you must email me the project immediately.

Each slide needs the initials of the person who made it in the lower right hand corner.

May 13- Please work on this assignment while you watch Eyes on the Prize episode 08. It’s about the racial
tension that apply to the project.
